Anthropic announced on 10 March 2026 that it will open an office in Sydney, making it the company's fourth location in Asia-Pacific alongside Tokyo, Bengaluru, and Seoul. The expansion reflects strong demand from businesses in Australia and New Zealand, with Australia ranking fourth globally in Claude.ai usage relative to population according to Anthropic's Economic Index.
The Sydney office will support enterprise customers including Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Quantium, and Canva, who are already using Claude across their operations. Anthropic is also exploring options to expand computing infrastructure in Australia through third-party partners — local data residency has been a frequent request from enterprises and government agencies in the region.
For the COR community's Asia-Pacific members, the Sydney office signals that Anthropic is doubling down on the region. More local infrastructure means lower latency for Australian and New Zealand developers using Claude Code, and the company's executive team visiting Australia at the end of March to formalise partnerships suggests deeper integration with the region's developer ecosystem is coming.
